Butler got his start in Myrtle Beach, SC at WBTW TV-13 News when he was sixteen years old. From 1996-1997 he worked for WBTW as a field photographer and live truck operator. WBTW is the CBS affiliate for the Florence/Myrtle Beach, SC market (#116). Shortly after leaving WBTW to pursue a BFA in film editing at North Carolina School of the Arts, he went to work for WXII News Channel 12 as a news editor. Girl You Don't Know, an independent music video, was recently co-produced and edited by Butler at NCSA. While co-producing the music video Butler was also working on what is now his latest award-winning documentary film, A Union In Wait, which was recently licensed for US television distribution by Sundance Channel. The film is also showing on national pay television in Canada on PrideVisionTV and is being sold on video by Frameline distribution. After graduating in 2001, he now works in Washington, DC as a freelance editor for regular clients such as ABC 7 News and National Geographic Today.
